Frequently Asked Questions

What internet providers can I get in Atlanta?

AT&T and Xfinity are the largest internet providers in Atlanta. AT&T stretches a little farther out from the city than Xfinity, but both have coverage basically everywhere inside the beltway.

Cox Communications and Spectrum are cable internet providers that have smaller footprints than AT&T and Xfinity. EarthLink has an even smaller service area, offering fiber and DSL internet options.

Atlanta is also one of the few places that have Google Fiber . Google offers just two plans with speeds up to 2,000 Mbps.

If you live in an area outside the reach of traditional landline internet, Viasat and HughesNet are your two satellite internet options.

How much is Xfinity Internet?

Xfinity’s cable internet plans start at $20 per month and run up to $80 per month, depending on the speed you choose. Xfinity’s single fiber plan costs $299.95 per month, but it isn’t widely available.

Prices and packages vary by area, so enter your zip code below to see what’s available to you.

How do I turn off Xfinity Wi-Fi?

To disable your Xfinity Wi-Fi, do the following:

Step 1: Open a web browser and enter 10.0.0.1 in the address bar. This will take you to your router’s preferences.

Step 2: Select Disable in the Wireless Network field.

Step 3: Select Save.

To turn it back on, just repeat the process and select Enable instead.

How do I get my Xfinity modem online?

You can get your Xfinity modem online by checking out our guide to Xfinity self-installation. Just follow a few important steps, and you’ll be connected.

How can I boost the Wi-Fi signal from my Xfinity modem?

Consider a Wi-Fi extender to boost your Wi-Fi signal from your Xfinity modem. These devices can increase the range of your network, which can improve performance in dead zones or areas far from the router’s location.

How do I make my Xfinity Wi-Fi more secure?

You can make your Xfinity Wi-Fi more secure by following these tips:

Use a secure password or passphrase

Your password should include numbers, symbols, and uppercase and lowercase letters. Better yet, use a passphrase that contains multiple unrelated words, like beanracooncoal, but with a mixture of letters, numbers, and symbols.

Use your firewall

Your computer and router have built-in firewalls. Turn them on if they’re disabled. The exact process varies from device to device, but it’s usually pretty easy. Ask tech support for help if you need it.

Have guests use the public Xfinity hotspot

If guests use a public hotspot, you won’t need to share your private network’s password. Plus, Xfinity Gateways broadcast a public hotspot by default, so there’s no setup necessary.

How much is AT&T Internet?

AT&T's DSL internet costs $55 per month. Its fiber internet plans range from $55 to $180 per month. Enter your zip code below to see what plans are available in your area.

What is AT&T Fiber?

AT&T Fiber is AT&T’s fastest internet service, with speeds up to 5,000 Mbps (yes, you read that correctly). As the name suggests, this service operates using fiber-optic cables rather than traditional copper cables. Fiber is more efficient and reliable than standard cable TV lines.

How fast is AT&T Fiber?

AT&T Fiber speeds range from 300 Mbps to 5,000 Mbps. Eventually, AT&T will offer 10,000 Mbps (10 Gbps) connections in the Atlanta area.

Atlanta residential internet coverage

The two biggest internet providers in Atlanta are AT&T and Xfinity. Both are available all over the metro area and extend far out beyond the Atlanta beltway.

AT&T provides DSL internet speeds up to 100 Mbps. It’s available from Gainsville in the northeast all the way down to LaGrange in the southwest. Coverage also extends from Tallapoosa to the west out to Athens in the east.

AT&T’s fiber has a smaller footprint but offers speeds up to 5,000 Mbps. Eventually, AT&T will offer a 10,000 Mbps plan, the fastest internet speeds currently provided to homes.

Google Fiber is another option if you want fast fiber internet. There are just two plans with speeds up to 2,000 Mbps. It’s the fastest internet provider in the US based on proprietary data we analyzed for our annual Fastest Internet Providers report.

For cable internet, Xfinity plans range from 75 Mbps to 1,200 Mbps. It has a slightly smaller coverage area than AT&T, but it still provides some of the best internet services to millions of Atlanta residents.

Cox Communications and Spectrum are two other cable internet providers in the Atlanta area with speeds up to 1,000 Mbps. EarthLink offers both DSL and fiber, but its coverage area isn’t as widespread.

If you’re unhappy with the landline internet options, Viasat and HughesNet are your satellite providers. Their plans are slower than wired internet and typically cost more too.

Highest-rated internet service providers in Atlanta

Google Fiber has the highest customer satisfaction scores in the area based on our annual survey, which covers speed. price, reliability, customer support, and overall satisfaction. Google Fiber is not available in all areas, but we suggest you get it if it’s available to you.

EarthLink is the top nationwide internet provider in the Atlanta area. It beats cable internet providers Xfinity and Spectrum in overall satisfaction, as well as rival fiber internet provider AT&T. Spectrum ranks third in overall satisfaction, while AT&T and Xfinity rank in the top half.

I had one problem, and Xfinity has refused to do anything about it unless I give them more money. My account is current and up-to-date. I called for technical support, and the so-called customer service agent threatened me if I do not pay an extra $99 for a tech to come to my home. I was not offered any technical support. My next call will be to file a complaint with the FCC.

Natalie R | 01-16-2019

Since 1/5/19 I have talked to 8 representatives. I have had 4 accounts created I believe. Every single person told me something different. First I was told the incorrect price 3 different times. Then when I finally agreed (even though it was not what I was quoted as well as I requested for the recording to be pulled of the phone call but was told they couldn't) the tech came out to install and couldn't and I was told there was a system outage in my area ironically. I called to reschedule and was told there is already DSL interent at my address. Spoke with 2 or more reps when they finally realized they were looking at the wrong address. They had to create a new account AGAIN and was then told I owe a deposit even though 2 days ago I didn't. Finally that got resolved and Omar in retentions located in Nashville Tn ID oc406u FINALLY resolved my issues and was able to make me want to stay. EVERY SINGLE OTHER REP HAS BEEN INCOMPETENT AND ALWAYS ASSURED ME THAT I GOT THE RIGHT PERSON TO FIX THE ISSUE BUT YET THEY JUST ADDED TO THE PROBLEM. AT&T has HORRIBLE customer service and I honestly would tell someone to run before signing up.
